Week 1 of my Copenhagen Summer Guide

Most evenings in this city begin the same way: a glass of something cold, slightly cloudy, handed to me with a grin and a warning, this one’s a little weird.

Copenhagen isn’t a wine city in the classic sense. It’s not polished or precious like Paris, or steeped in tradition like Rome. There’s no large wine lists. Less swirling and sniffing. No “hints of cherry bark and confidence.” Just: do you want something fizzy? Funky? Cold as hell? Good.

It’s something else entirely. More fluid. More intuitive. It’s not as much about the typical wine tasting elements, but more about energy of the wine and where you drink it.. You can drink standing on the sidewalk outside the bar, stretched out on a curb with friends. You can squeeze into a candlelit corner of an underground spot while a DJ plays vinyl behind the bar. You can take your bottle to the harbour and finish it by the water, legs dangling over the edge, maybe making out with someone before the sun sets at 11pm.

This guide is the first in a summer series I’ve been meaning to write for a while. Each post includes a personal top 10 and a Google Maps list to save and use. I’m keeping this series for paid subscribers, not to gatekeep, but because a lot of these spots are ones I usually only share with friends, and I’d like to keep the locals-only feeling intact.
